Seniors Need Chiropractic Care Too !

It seems that lately I’ve been treating quite a few elderly patients.

I am a Medicare provider and Medicare Insurance covers Chiropractic.

As the Population ages, more and more people are using Chiropractors to stay healthy.

Elderly patients under Chiropractic care report better overall health, have fewer chronic conditions and are less likely to use prescription drugs.

Restoring proper spinal and nerve function can help improve mobility, vitality and endurance…and result in a better quality of life.

So remember Seniors need Chiropractic Care too!!

The 5 most dangerous words are: “Maybe It Will Go Away”.

Think…Conservative Care First !

Good Morning,

According to the American Chiropractic Association, October is National Chiropractic Month. It is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout the month, Chiropractor’s are encouraging consumers to think “Conservative Care First” when it comes to their health.

In years past, many patients would find relief through conservative forms of health care like Chiropractic only AFTER unsuccessfully trying other more complex and riskier treatments, such as Drugs and Surgery.

Today that approach has been reversed, with more Medical research and guidelines supporting the idea that patients should exhaust conservative approaches, such as Chiropractic, Massage, Acupuncture and Exercise BEFORE moving on to other treatments.

Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.) provide a patient-centered, whole person approach to health care marked by greater interaction and better communication, resulting in consistently higher patient satisfaction ratings than medical doctors.

Prescription pain drug abuse now classified as an epidemic in the United States and the number of spinal fusions soaring over the last decade.

The essential services provided by Doctors of Chiropractic represent a primary care approach for the prevention, diagnosis and conservative management of back pain and spinal disorders. This approach can often enable patients to reduce or avoid the need for these riskier treatments.

This is why Chiropractic is especially relevant in today’s health care system. So become your own best health care advocate by insisting on “Conservative Care First !”

Dear Patients and Little League Baseball Fans…

As many of our patients already know, one of my passions is being an assistant coach for my son, Caden’s, Little League All-Star Baseball Team. His team has won this years’ Cal Ripken District Tournament, State Tournament and the New England Regional Tournament. (15 wins, 1 loss)

This means that they will be going to Alachua, Florida and
representing ALL of New England at this years’
Cal Ripken Little League World Series on August 5th-14th.

Although the league covers some costs, this trip will be a financial burden for most of the player’s families. Please let me know if you would like to make a tax deductible donation to help our team reach their goal.
The flyer below will explain how you can help.

“The Road To Alachua Takes a Village”

“Is Chiropractic Care Safe?”

Good Morning…

One of the questions I’m often asked in my practice is: “How safe is Chiropractic care?”

Chiropractic treatment is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, joint pains and headaches.

One way you can determine how safe a health procedure may be is by the amount of Malpractice insurance is required to cover it. And, my Malpractice coverage is relatively inexpensive.

I have to pay more for my Car insurance premium than my Malpractice insurance premium.

Chiropractic care is very safe and the associated risks and complications are very small.

And in addition to being a safe form of treatment, spinal manipulation is very effective, getting patients well faster than many medical approaches.

25 Years of Caring !!

The inclusion of 6 Chiropractors as part of the US Olympic Medical Team in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics reflects the fact that over the last decade, chiropractors have become a key part of an athlete’s training and recovery program.
Athletes train hard and endure significant physical demands. Throughout the years, chiropractic care has become a mainstay in the care of world-class athletes, leading to a growing number of chiropractors being included in the Olympic Games. Many athletes are sidelined with injuries that could be avoided, while others are still playing, but at less than peak efficiency simply because their structural system is not balance.

For the Sochi Winter Olympics Chiropractic Care, athletes and coaches realize that pain-killing drugs are not the answer, nor are they permitted at the Olympics. The grueling level of competition places an unusual amount of strain on the back and structural systems of Olympic athletes’ bodies.

At the Sochi Winter Olympics, Chiropractic treatments can help to improve posture, increase a person’s range of motion and flexibility, reduce pain in major joints, and increase blood circulation, all of which can help improve athletic performance. Numerous athletes attribute the care they receive from their chiropractor, along with working with other health-care professionals, as a key to properly preparing their bodies to perform optimally.

The beauty of the Sochi Winter Olympics Chiropractic Care is that chiropractic care is not only drug-free and surgery-free care, but also preventative and performance-enhancing care. Maintaining proper alignment will allow athletes to be prepared for their sport.

Chiropractors emphasize manual therapy including joint adjustment and manipulation, with particular focus on joint dysfunction or subluxations. They consider the athlete as an integrated being, stressing keeping all the systems of the body functioning efficiently.

Chiropractic care has the potential to positively impact lives. We encourage everyone at any age to come in and benefit from what even the greatest athletes in the world claim as their secret weapon.

And remember the 5 most dangerous words are: “Maybe It Will Go Away”.

Let it Snow…Let it Snow…Let it Snow!

Good Morning…

Another Snowstorm! Who had to shovel snow yesterday?

All this snow shoveling and snow-blowing can wreak havoc on the musculoskeletal system. Especially the Lower Back, Neck and Shoulders.

But if you must shovel snow…here are some helpful safety tips.

1) Wear layers of clothing to keep the muscles warm and flexible.

2) Perform some warm-up stretches before picking up the shovel.

3) Push the snow straight ahead, avoid twisting and don’t throw the snow.

4) Bend with your knees and take frequent breaks.

If you feel chest pain or shortness of breath…stop, rest and get some help.

And If you do experience Back Pain…call Dr. Joe and remember the 5 most dangerous words are “Maybe it Will Go Away”.

Why Maintenance Care?

Did you ever wonder why everyone preaches Maintenance Care?

Chiropractic Maintenance or Wellness Care makes a lot of sense. It’s much easier to keep patients well then to fix them when they fall apart. I go to my Chiropractor every month without fail. I’m bending over my patients every day and I have to take care of my spine too. There is no way I can treat my patients if I don’t keep my spine healthy.

There are many good clinical reasons to keep up with Maintenance Chiropractic Treatments. Here are a few of them:

1) Poor Posture Habits – contributes to pain and spinal problems

2) Workplace Ergonomics – improper work stations lead to pain and possible injury

3) Don’t get enough exercise – can’t hold alignment if the muscles are weak,  will lead to spinal problems

4) No stretching – susceptible to injury, hard to adjust when inflexible

5) Past Back Surgeries – prone to deteriorate & future back problems

6) High Stress – tight muscles, prone to headaches, postural troubles

7) Bad Diet – prone to headaches, weight gain leading to back problems

8) History of Back Problems – prone to having re-aggravation and recurrence

9) Scoliosis- always out of balance, need to monitor curve regression

10) Overweight – prone to back problems

11) Diabetes – prone to neuropathies, headaches, may be overweight

12) Heart Disease – back problems may mask other problems

13) Pregnancy – prone to back problems

14) Immunosuppressed – spinal adjustments boost immunity

15) Children – heavy backpacks, active lifestyle, sports, growing pains

16) Compulsive “Self-Poppers” – real problems are not being addressed

17) Smokers – damaging discs may leave them prone to deterioration

18) Medications – may be masking pain, causing joint, muscle & nerve problems, headaches

19) Arthritis – lack of spinal motion will further deteriorate joints

20) Desk Jockeys & Video Gamers – prone to carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain, headache & postural problems

If you haven’t been treated in a while, make an appointment today. Don’t wait for things to fall apart and get bad again. Chiropractic Maintenance and Wellness Care works!

Snap, Crackle and Pop…TMJ Syndrome

Good Morning…

This week I treated several patients suffering from TMJ Syndrome.

TMJ Syndrome is pain and dysfunction of the Temporo-Mandibular Joint, which are the two small joints that connect your jaw to the skull. TMJ problems can be caused by stress, clenching of the teeth and trauma such as Auto Accidents.

Symptoms can include pain, headaches, clicking, popping and locking of the jaw. and may also be associated with neck and cervical spine problems.

Chiropractic treatment is safe and effective in relieving tension, pain and dysfunction of TMJ Syndrome. Treatment includes gentle manipulation of the TMJ joints and the upper cervical vertebrae as well as spinal and Jaw exercises.

So remember, the 5 most dangerous words are “Maybe It Will Go Away.”
